Dear Mum and Dad,
Welcome!
The story of Blooms & Butterflies began on a visit to Scotland many years ago. I discovered a shop of intricately embroidered handmade products. When I expressed my admiration for her work to the elderly owner of the shop, she gave me a simple piece of advice – do what you love and share the joy of it with others.
At the time, I was a stay-at-home mum who gave up her career for her kids – a decision I never regretted- but with two teenage sons ready to leave the nest, the shopowner’s words inspired me to find something that I loved and could share with others.
Art and books have been my greatest passion since childhood; I was named after a popular children’s character in Sri Lanka, so it has always felt like I was meant to find a calling that would bring these elements together. When it came to my own babies, filling their nurseries with drawings and books helped me observe first-hand how the things they saw and heard in their earliest years shaped their lives as they grew.
Through Blooms & Butterflies, I can tell stories through nursery designs inspired by whimsical natural sceneries, my happy childhood memories, and stories I read as a child. We see examples of expectant mothers making a safe, cosy space for their little ones all around us in nature. The urge to nest during pregnancy remains true no matter which part of the world you live in or what species you belong to. The nursery will remain a cosy, happy place for a mother and baby to bond with each other.
I hope my work gives you a magical space to treasure your time with your baby. I integrate original characters and storytelling elements into my designs to encourage parents to create their own bedtime stories. Hopefully, as your little one grows, this allows them to feel closer to nature and immerse themselves in fantasy worlds to develop their imaginations.
I hope you enjoy exploring our world.
Warm wishes,
Founder
